Dr. Shrestha is one of the pioneering clinical hematologists of Nepal, with over twelve years of extensive experience in the field of hematology. He earned his MD in Hematology from Fudan University, Shanghai, and pursued advanced training in hemato-oncology and bone marrow transplantation at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, as well as at the University of Sapienza, Rome, and the University of Piemonte, Italy. In addition, he completed his IHTC fellowship at the National Blood Bank in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, further strengthening his expertise in managing complex blood disorders. Since 2008, Dr. Shrestha has been serving patients in Nepal with dedication and commitment. He began his career at Kanti Children’s Hospital’s Oncology Department (2008–2011), before working as Senior Resident in Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi (2011–2012). He later joined the Hematology Department of Civil Service Hospital (2012–2017). Currently, he is the Unit Chief and Consultant Hematologist at Nepal Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, where he continues to lead and innovate in hematology care. His expertise spans the management of a wide range of blood disorders, including leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, aplastic anemia, thalassemia, hemophilia, and bone marrow transplantation. His outstanding contributions have been recognized nationally, having been honored by the Nepal Hemophilia Society in 2015 for his role in improving hemophilia treatment, and by the Nepal Thalassemia Society in 2018 for his significant work in managing thalassemia patients. Beyond patient care, Dr. Shrestha has played an instrumental role in shaping national guidelines for hematology services. He contributed to the development of guidelines on the appropriate use of blood, standards for blood transfusion services in Nepal, waste management in blood transfusion services, and hemovigilance reporting protocols. He has also published multiple articles in indexed journals, sharing his clinical insights and research with the broader medical community. Dr. Shrestha is actively engaged in professional organizations. He is a National Technical Advisory Committee Member of the National Bureau of Blood Transfusion Service, a medical committee member of the Nepal Hemophilia Society, a visiting consultant at the Nepal Thalassemia Society, and a member of the SAARC Federation of Oncology–Nepal Chapter (SFO-N). Through his clinical expertise, leadership, and academic contributions, he has established himself as a leading figure in advancing hematology and patient care in Nepal.
