Consultant Radiation Oncologist

Dr. Acharya is a highly accomplished Radiation Oncologist with extensive training and over two decades of experience in clinical oncology. He completed his MD from Tver State Medical Academy, Russia (1998) and later pursued his MD in Radiation Oncology from the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Kathmandu (2007). His expertise has been strengthened through numerous international trainings at some of the world’s leading cancer centers, including Tata Memorial Center (Mumbai), Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute (New Delhi), Kansas University Cancer Center (USA), Tokyo Metropolitan Komagome Hospital (Japan), as well as short-term courses in the UK, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, and Japan. Currently, Dr. Acharya serves as Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist and Head of the Department of Clinical Oncology at NAMS, Bir Hospital, a position he has held since 2015. Alongside his clinical leadership, he is also deeply involved in academia, working as an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the MD Radiation Oncology Residency Program at NAMS. Previously, he contributed his expertise at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (2009–2011). His academic and teaching commitments reflect his passion for mentoring the next generation of oncologists in Nepal. Dr. Acharya has also played an important role in international collaborations, serving as the National Project Coordinator (Nepal) for IAEA Vienna projects RAS 6072 (2014–2017) and RAS 6086 (2018–2021). He has been invited as a chairperson at various international scientific meetings and has been instrumental in organizing several important oncology conferences within Nepal. A keen teacher, researcher, and learner, he has made significant contributions to advancing cancer treatment and education in the country. His special interests include the management of head and neck, lung, breast, and gynecological cancers, where he applies evidence-based approaches to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Acharya has published extensively, with numerous scientific papers in national and international journals, covering a wide spectrum of topics including chemoradiation, brachytherapy, lung cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, treatment toxicities, and cancer screening practices. His work has been recognized at prestigious platforms such as the St. Gallen EORTC Gastrointestinal Cancer Conference (Switzerland, 2014) and the AAHPM & HPNA Annual Assembly (Chicago, USA, 2016). He is an active member of several professional organizations, including Nepal Medical Association (Life Member), Vice President of NESTRO (Nepalese Association of Radiation Oncologists), Secretary General of PRECAN (Prevent Cancer Nepal), Ex-Secretary General of SAARC Federation of Oncologists – Nepal, Ex-Vice President of Tara Bahadur Khatri Cancer Trust, as well as an international member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). Through his leadership, academic contributions, and relentless commitment to patient care, Dr. Acharya has become a leading figure in Nepalese oncology, dedicated to raising the standards of cancer care, research, and education both nationally and internationally.
