Dr. Anju Shrestha is the Senior Consultant and Unit Head of the Gynae Oncology Department at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center, a position she has held since the hospital’s establishment. She completed her MBBS (Topper in OBG) from the Medical College of Medical Science, Pokhara, and obtained her MD in Obstetrics & Gynecology from BPKIHS, Dharan. Recognized as one of the leading gynecologic oncologists in Nepal, Dr. Shrestha is among the few surgeons in the country skilled in performing radical hysterectomy, lymph node dissection, laparotomy for advanced ovarian cancer, laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, and hysteroscopy. She previously served as an Associate Professor at CMCTH (TU) and continues to contribute significantly to medical education and clinical training. Alongside her surgical expertise, she actively promotes preventive oncology through large community-based awareness campaigns, early detection, and preventive programs, particularly targeting cervical and breast cancers in rural Nepal. She has a strong passion for research and publication, serving as the Member Secretary of IRC-NCHRC, and has presented numerous papers and posters at national and international conferences, where she is often invited as an international faculty. Her special interests include extensive cytoreductive surgery in advanced gynecologic cancers and pelvic exenteration, laparoscopic radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection, and cervical cancer prevention through HPV testing and vaccination. To strengthen her expertise, she has completed advanced training and fellowships, including Gynae-Oncology at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Center, New Delhi, Minimal Access Onco-surgery at Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Hyderabad, Advanced Laparoscopic Gynecology Surgery at Ethicon Institute of Surgical Education, Mumbai, and training in Advanced Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy, and Infertility at Vardaman Trauma and Laparoscopy Center, Muzaffarnagar, India. Her outstanding contributions have been recognized internationally, as she received the S.S. Ratnam Young Gynaecologist Award at AOFOG 2013 in Bangkok and the Shingo Fuji Young Doctors Summit Award at the IGCS Biennial Meeting 2018 in Kyoto, Japan. She has also authored and co-authored several important publications in reputed journals, covering topics such as adenomyosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, cesarean section closure techniques, and medical abortion. In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr. Shrestha is an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the Nepal Medical Council (NMC), Nepal Medical Association, Nepal Society of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (NESOG), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS), and is also a member of Rotary Club Yala.
