Walkathon program by Nepal Cancer Hospital & Research Center with Rose Foundation
Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center in collaboration with Nepal Cancer Support Group and Rose Foundation Nepal organized a walkathon on 24th November 2018 as part of its Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event was a grand success as around 1500 participants turned up to support the event. The walkathon started from Patan Durbar Square and then went to Lagankhel, Jawalakhel, Pulchowk before coming back again to Patan Durban Square and ending with a flash mob by NCHRC. Eminent media personality Mithila Sharma and Musicians Dipak Bajracharya and Manoj K.C.(1974 A.D.) were present in the walkathon and supported the event.
Breast Cancer is the second most prevalent form of cancer in women in Nepal after cervical cancer and awareness of breast cancer is one of the most crucial steps in minimizing its effects on the population. The main theme of the event was to promote breast self-examination and mammography among women to increase the detection of breast cancer at early stages where the treatment options can be more successful. Breast cancer survivors also attended the event and said they were positive that events like these will help raise awareness among Nepali women about breast cancer.
Nepal Cancer Hospital hopes events like this will send a positive message to everyone involved in the field of cancer- from doctors prescribing treatments to patients currently fighting cancer and all the other support structures built around cancer care. We thank all the participants for their enthusiastic participation and support to the event.
